Welcome to Dementia Australia’s National Symposium 2020 - Quality care is dementia care.

This symposium is the culmination of Dementia Australia’s Quality Care Initiative, a project started in 2018 to identify how people living with dementia, and their families and carers define quality dementia care.

An impressive line-up of local and international leaders will inspire and challenge your perceptions of quality dementia care. More importantly they will share their experiences in developing new ways to effectively and confidently deliver quality dementia care. This will include hearing the voice of consumers on the key outcomes of the National Consumer Summit held in 2019. These were subsequently presented to the Minister for Aged Care and Senior Australians, Senator the Hon Richard Colbeck.

The symposium will provide a timely opportunity within the context of the work of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety to explore the importance of leadership in shaping culture to achieve the outcomes consumers are seeking. Delegates will hear from providers on how they are achieving engaged workforces who are delivering improved outcomes for consumers.

We are delighted to welcome the expertise of speakers including Janet Anderson, Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner, Dr Lisa Trigg, Assistant Director of Research, Data and Intelligence at Social Care Wales and Professor Dawn Brooker, Director of the University of Worcester Association for Dementia Studies, School of Allied Health and Community.

And to take us to a new level of inspiration for change we welcome employee engagement and team leadership educator, Dr James Adonis who will be followed by Dementia Australia Ambassador, Ita Buttrose AC OBE who will share on her lifelong experience of leading change.

As our Master of Ceremonies we will appreciate the warmth, humour and facilitation skills of Julie McCrossin AM.
